Cemeteries

West Union Baptist Cemetery

Episode Three of The Cemetery Series:

This is a brief mini-documentary of West Union Baptist Church’s cemetery which is located in West Union, Oregon. Included in this video is information about David Lenox, who was captain of the first wagon train to cross the Rocky Mountains.

A large number of headstones date back to the 1800s. Those pioneers buried here not only came from back east, but also from European countries such as Germany, Norway, and Scotland.

The old, yet still active, church is featured as well.

Your part on the West Union church in West Union, Oregon was really great. I grew not far from there and all the other churches that have so much history, the Old Scots Church, Helevitia Church, and many more than need to be remembered. Again thank you for your part, of keeping history alive, because without where would we be. I now live in TX and there is so much history here also. Keep up the good work and I will keep you in my prayers.

      Hi De Anna,

I apologize for not responding sooner. I received an email this morning notifying me that there were new comments on some of my posts. Turns out that some were posted months ago 🙁 Anyways, I am glad you liked the video. I really do love local history. When I go to cemeteries, it always fascinates me that the headstones represent unique lives with a history all their own. I can get lost daydreaming about the lives of those buried. Hopefully, someday you will be able to come back and visit. Unfortunately, the urban sprawl is quickly approaching the cemetery. Thank you for your feedback! -Tim
