Union Point Cemetery

The Cemetery Series – Episode One

Union Point Cemetery, located in the small town of Banks, Oregon, is a historic pioneer cemetery in western Washington County which has beautiful views that stretch well beyond the local landscape.

Back in 1870, a man named William Mills donated part of his land for a cemetery. This cemetery was originally called the Wilkes Cemetery, as well as the Greenville cemetery. Years later it became known as “Union Point Cemetery.”

Headstones range from the 1800’s to the present time. Visitors can locate generations of families who are buried in this cemetery. You will come across local family names, such as Wilkes and Schlegel.

If you plan on visiting the cemetery, take some time to notice the different types of headstones that dot the landscape. Some are quite unique and perhaps have had special meaning to the family members of those buried beneath them.
