The Cemetery Series: Episode 4

The historic Sacred Heart Chapel and Cemetery in Bowie, Maryland is featured in this fourth episode of Shadow Keeper’s “The Cemetery Series.” The history of this Catholic enclave dates to the 1700s, when, according to the church’s website, “it was illegal to worship as a Catholic.”

The adjoining cemetery’s burial records indicate that the earliest burial site was in 1819. Significant people who have been laid to rest in the cemetery include Andrew Jackson, a former slave who became a successful jockey.

This documentary not only highlights the history of this Catholic location, but provides a close look inside the chapel itself and around the cemetery grounds.
